The land of Seric, as it was once known, was once ruled by a great mage. High in his enormous floating tower, he unraveled the mysteries of the universe and expanded his magical power. The few inhabitants of the land preferred not to know what took place within those walls and feared the tremendous lights and thunder that would echo from above. Rumors spread of how he could travel to fantastic worlds and conjure bizarre creatures.

One day, the people of the land felt a strange force emanate from the tower and had the urge to look up where they once had feared. The clouds became dark and the air grew still. Suddenly, the earth shook with a catastrophic tremor, and the great dark tower cracked and then burst with a blinding light. The fragments of the magic structure rained down upon the land and diffused their enchantment into anything they touched. The entire tower was obliterated - all but the very center. It plummeted to the ground with its vast weight, but miraculously remained intact as it hit the ground.
Even as the dust still hung in the air, the people below were drawn to see the strange ruin. The clearly enchanted structure was ancient in appearance seemed to radiate curiosity. It was mostly flat, with many queer arches set in a radial pattern from the center - all glowing with their own unique light. It wasn't long until the most courageous adventurer climbed up onto the platform and stepped through one of the arches - portals as they turned out to be. To the shock of onlookers, he vanished instantly, only to return hours later with tales of an unbelievable world and remarkable creatures. He also brought with him the first of millions - a few small blocks of stone and iron.
Now, years later, the countryside is primed to become a vast metropolis. Fortune-hunters from around the world are drawn by myths and legends to this land. They seek power, magic, fame, and the promise of a new life. Alliances are made, territories claimed, and resources gathered. Who will become the greatest of these adventurers, and what will the future hold?
